
Lightsource Labs is the innovation and technology arm of Lightsource bp focused on smart energy solutions. I led design on Tribe, an advanced energy management platform that gives homeowners visibility and control over their home energy usage through a connected app and ecosystem.
Project overview
As the UX Designer, I spearheaded the comprehensive brand refresh and UX redesign of the Tribe digital ecosystem. My role involved reimagining the mobile app experience and web presence to better serve an evolving audience of energy-conscious homeowners. I moved the product from a technical utility to a consumer-centric lifestyle brand, owning everything from the core visual identity and logo refinement to the high-fidelity UX/UI dashboards that track live energy consumption and savings.
Challenges
The primary challenge was data simplification: translating complex, live energy-generation metrics into intuitive, actionable insights for everyday users. I had to design a visual hierarchy that remained functional under heavy data loads while ensuring the brand felt approachable rather than intimidating. Operating within a lean tech-product team, I balanced the technical constraints of hardware integration with the need for a seamless, cross-platform experience that maintained brand integrity across both the app and the web.




Results
Product Modernisation: Delivered a refined brand identity and logo that established Tribe as a trustworthy leader in the energy-tech space, directly contributing to its successful market positioning.
Enhanced Data UX: Redesigned the core app experience in Adobe XD, introducing simplified navigation and live data dashboards that made energy tracking accessible to non-technical users.
Scalable Design Patterns: Developed a library of reusable UI components and visual patterns for energy graphs and alerts, providing a future-proof foundation for subsequent feature releases.
